Can a black person keep their blackness if they marry outside their own race?
Can a black person marry outside their race, but keep their blackness?
For example will they still go to that black church, eat black food, go to black clubs, vist family members with other half, kiss their teeth when vex lol, hang with their black friends, wear their normal clothes, speak the same dialect, etc etc........?
when I said blackness Im referring to black mannerisms not colour.

is that even a question?? if your married to a white can't do certain things in front of them they might think your crazy and laugh after you if your parents had a house in jamaica and it didn't look good you can't take your wife/husband there you would have to save up money and take them to a hotel
Thank you for your responses Cle, marcellina and blackstar but you guys didn't really go to town with them lol :(!
Blackstar you really should state the exact who's of your comments. I have a suspicion your shying away from the undesired responses and that these really are your genuine opinions.
To add, on occasions where 'those' men have stereotyped me as the 'white man black woman' there English is top perfect also.
Conclusion - black men are a troubled people + (antidote) fellow black women to appease, uphold their broken egos = Makes *blackstar happy.

blackstar: I don't think it's complicated at all. Sure people can lose perspective and get offended easily, and so what if someone disagrees, that's healthy. As long as you're being respectful in the manner that you put your views across, that's what's important. What I don't want and probably others too is to waste time engaging in discussion with someone who is not being genuine about their opinions. I'll end up just not taking part at all, through sheer irritation. So again contributors to a debate should clearly state if they're playing Devil's Advocate by some simple phrasing e.g. 'it could be viewed', or 'I've hear it said', or do you think?, etc., etc. so many ways.
If you are playing Devil's Advocate, I think you should say so, at the time. Nothing wrong with that, as there is nothing wrong with the statement I made.
As for what Chris Rock said; I'd say that Niggers are Black people too....

Marcellina also even thou it's Internet some people get offended by the smallest things, I don't come on here to beef people even thou it's hard not to when you have opinions someone else does not argree with your opinion. Complicated :)
blackstar: in a discussion, you should make clear what is your own view, and when you are playing devil's advocate. Otherwise you risk making yourself look bigoted and ignorant when the opposite might be true. Afterall 'male version of Opra [sic]', you're not :-)
Maurice everybody stero types in some form or another, ref your last comment I'm just playing devils advocate and putting the questions/subjects out there, so that everyone for negitive and positive can show their opinions, it's not nessasarly my view which people assume :) call me the male version of opra lol
And @Blackstar, you can't have it both ways. You can't accuse white people of stereotyping Black people in general and then have stereotypes against our own kind.
Very interesting! It is very obvious that there are a lot of us that speak a high quality of English, yet retain a strong sense of their Black identity. I think the problem with those who are prejudiced against us, for whatever reason, is that they make assumptions without getting to know what the truth is.
Some excellent comments June_4real. In the past I have volunteered to help struggling children improve their reading. The Teacher in charge of the class told me that they would benefit from spending time with me as my English is perfect. I have not experienced the negativity from Black men that you have, the closest I have got is one idiot saying that I don't 'walk' like a Black woman. What utter nonsense!
@june_4real from my own experience being raised by my Caribbean mother, I've always been taught to broaden my vocabulary. That lead to taunts from a few kids that would often call me coconut when I spoke in a certain way.
Moving forward, the 21st century hasn't changed that much. Perceptions of identity still remain the same. I've had people, both black and white assume I'm the type to prefer white women because, and I'll quote "you don't act black" I've been told this point blank.
I'll end this here as I've already wrote my opinion on this subject previously but had to reply to @june_4real's great post.

June ref your last bit sorry to sound like a broken record. I could be wrong but when they say you look like the type for white guys maybe you don't fit the sterio type black female type some men are used to lol
Sigh i am beyond tired of hearing this continual debate about coconuts and black people defying the idiot black stereotype by speaking proper English. Are we not all adults here? I used to think these statements @ blackstar "shunning their blackness" were funny because of the ignorance of them but it just enrages me. Why? because had i not have been brought up here i would have spoken the same English if not better.
In Africa they teach the Queens English and the majority of African's converse this way. I can't witness this for Caribbeans im afraid but please do share your experiences. Even growing up my parents would use an exceptionally high level of English to correct my mistakes and to lecture me. They would never say for instance "stop being silly" they would always refer to biblical parables or fables, so i grew up with a broader or (upper middle class vocabulary). Even when i visit Africa and i converse with the younger children they seem so wise simple because their vocabulary is unrestricted. Where im from in Africa our tongue is very sharp, and we enunciate very well and we are renowned as a people for it.
To return, i must add that black does by no means translate as uneducated, and when our community makes such idiotic statements we are reducing ourselves. I have been around white people more so than the average black person (again i accept i might be making an assumption here) and i can vouch that black people generally speak better English than whites.
Whilst i am here let me just state that although whites may be the latter in society they are the latter also in working and under classes. In laymen terms there are many more average white men and women as their are the rich, and the average white does not speak the queens English. Rest assured, i will be the first to vouch even that most thugs, hood rats whatever you wanna call them speak better English that the majority of whites. Again alot of my witnessing is favorable to the Black African community so i would like to hear more accounts from my Carribbeans bro's and sisters.
I hate to exhaust you all but whilst i am here may i also add that a lot of black men have shied away from approaching me in the past because they consider me to be a coconut. In addition, whenever i have further investigated this they also express that i 'look the type to like white men'??? Oh an its usually because of the way i speak. *overly exaggerated sigh*

What is that about?
Would guess that Black/Asian partnerships are rare in the UK.....only current example I can think of is Adrian Lester (from 'Hustle' amongst other shows) married to Lolita Chakrabarti....a long-time bredrin of mine from school days has been married to a Japanese woman for the longest, and doing very well for himself.......
My experience is that parents of Indian/Pakistani heritage are generally hostile to their kids dating 'Africans', as well as the other way around......where it happens the Asian partner often keeps their other half hidden from their family because of the aggro it will cause.....
Tho of course there are plenty of 'Asian' folks in the Caribbean in places like T & T and Guyana, so it might be more commonplace there.....
